Be Wild Er.

Get a cup of tea, sit back, and listen to Mr Macfarlane talking about The Lost Words.

When I was a child there were more sparrows, blackbirds, thrushes. This book is a song of protest in words and paint, a soul song, and aims to help us rewind our lives and be less at ease with the decrease in numbers of the wild world. Name it, own it, heart and soul.

And thank you Waterstones for making this film.

About Jackie

I am an artist and writer. I live in a small house by the sea in Wales where I write, paint, walk and watch and dream of bears and whales. I love to read, have a wish for wings and prefer the company of animals to that of humans, though at times I can be quite friendly. I am learning how to work with wood engraving tools and hoping to show that you can teach an old dog new tricks.

I spent time yesterday, gloriously lost in the landscape of “The Lost Words”. How many times have I done so now, I wonder. I’m losing count.

This is a transformative book. Like the proverbial pebble in a pond. I feel its ripples deep within, the energy imparted, not dissipated. Causing ideas to germinate, leaving change in its wake.

Eyes widening, everyone I show it to falls far into its pages. Ripples multiplying. The magic in its spells of brush and pen and thought and feeling is clear to see as they read. In watching them you know the same magic has captured you too.
