Blue Ginger, a supper of stories

When I first announced, about a year ago, that I would have a ‘Year off’, a ‘Gap Year’, one of the things i had wanted to do was suppers, with stories. This week at Blue Ginger in Cradley, near Malvern, I did just that, thanks to Sue Lim and her wonderful cooking and hospitality.
The evening was lovely. I met so many really lovely people. I read Little Evie, some of East of the Sun and Song of the Golden Hare to a room filled with adults. Sue had copies of the books for sale.
It was a gentle evening and something I would love to do again. I know that Serendip have plans for something similar.
Myself and the much-better-half were at the Blue Ginger gallery a couple of weeks ago and bought a beautiful piece by Tamsin Abbott for the much-better-half’s parents’ Golden Wedding anniversary. We also saw your brilliant work, Jackie and loved it. A bit beyond our means at the present time, but one day we hope to own a piece.
It looks so enticing and you even completed a glowing golden hare for the occasion!

Good morning Jackie, first off, fantastic work, thank you for sharing it with me – all the way on the other side of the planet! I have a question – and please tell me if you are uncomfortable with this: (I would totally understand) could you tell me what your process steps are – how do you keep the gold so flawless? Do you prime your subject area? What is your step by step. I want to create a similar feel in my portraits, and thought I’d take a chance and ask.

I size the background where I want the gold to go and use transfer gold leaf which is easy to handle. But I work in flaws and leave gaps and sometimes twist a little to create texture and patter. Will try and remember to show how next time and I will be doing more soon.
