International Tiger Day

Posted on September 26, 2012

Extending the paw of friendship30th September in International Tiger Day.

To celebrate this, and to support tigers I have given the original painting from I am Cat for the tiger page to 21st Century Tiger. They are auctioning the piece. We are hoping that the auction will raise as much money as possible and also awareness of the problems raised by the wild tiger.

I have met tigers, fed tigers and looked into their eyes at London Zoo. I was even taken behind the cages to see the ‘tiger’s’ kitchen where all the animal food at the zoo is prepared. Such a wonderful experience. I have never ever seen a tiger in the wild and may never have the chance to see one, but knowing that somewhere in the world wild tigers prowl enriches my life and my dreams. So, please help to support the work of 21st Century Tiger. Blog, tweet, share, sing, dance, dream and spread the word about this to ensure that the auction gets the best chance possible. Leave comments below so I can follow the progress.

Thank you.

The book is called I am Cat, published by Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and signed copies are available from Solva Woollen Mill in Pembrokeshire ( they ship world wide) and the book can also be purchased from most good independent bookshops ( where you should be able to order it if they don’t have it on the shelf) and can be found in most libraries ( if you can find one as the government attempts to make libraries as rare as tigers). It is also published in USA, France, Denmark, Korea and Holland. The Uk edition sold half of its print run in the first week. My hope in making the book is to inspire a new generation of children to love the wild and wild things. I only hope that when they grow up there are still tigers roaming in the wild places of the world. I believe that 21st Century Tiger will help to make this possible.

Jackie, I do think you are the most incredible artist/writer/person I have come across. Would that I could know you. I know we’d be great friends.

  3. That’s a wonderful gift to a worthy cause Jackie. I’ll spread the word thru my FB and Twitter. How brilliant that you met tigers; you’re a lucky girl.
