The Names of the Hare; or The Wind and the Hare.

It has taken far too long to get this far, as life gets in the way now and again and Robin had a brief hospital visit and Pi had to go to the vets. Both patients are doing well.

Trying to find ways of combining words and images, outside of the medium of books ( I need a rest from publishing after 20 years of working from contract to contract) So, here is  progress for the first of The Names of the Hare. There will be more.

All the time when I am working I am answering questions I pose to myself.

Time to move on now, to the next painting, work out new ideas, play more with the words, choose differently how to write next time. And meanwhile it’s the remnants that I find myself liking.

She is for sale and can be found in the Room of Hares, along with others on my website. Also at The House of Golden Dreams on Facebook.

About Jackie

I am an artist and writer. I live in a small house by the sea in Wales where I write, paint, walk and watch and dream of bears and whales. I love to read, have a wish for wings and prefer the company of animals to that of humans, though at times I can be quite friendly. I am learning how to work with wood engraving tools and hoping to show that you can teach an old dog new tricks.

A beautiful piece of work, Jackie. Inspirational, in fact it inspired me to write the poem below:

    HARE

    Sail-eared
    Earth-surfer.
    Weaving your speed,
    Warp to the weft
    Of the wind.

    Seen then gone.
    A rent in the retina
    Of the world’s
    Watching eye.
    An image left
    Like picture-making light
    In the camera’s dark box;
    An icon on memory’s
    Light-sensitive film.

Very beautiful – both Jackie’s and Stuart’s work. I love that you showed us it being breathed into being.

Very beautiful – both Jackie’s and Stuart’s work. I love that you showed us it being breathed into being. Love all the wonderful names of the hare. Magic. Ursula LeGuin says naming is magic.

  6. Adam says:

Since I was a child I have been entranced by the hare, their strange other-worldliness, their kinetic bond to the land, their link to shape-shifting and magic. You draw them like no other. It’s a pleasure to watch your hares come to life.
