I was asked to do a slot in the ‘ How to Draw’ on Guardian Online. All the ones I looked at looked wonderful, from Catherine Raynor’s How to draw a giraffe to Jon Klassen’s How to Draw a Bear Lying Down.
I was so busy at the time I kept forgetting and then at last settled with an idea and took my paints and camera down to Solva Woollen Mill and sat outside so that I could photograph each stage as I built up the painting. It was a beautiful day, painting to the sound of the mill wheel turning while people came and went and Anna brought me coffee and cake. And it was hard work, concentrating, trying to remember how to paint, to express what I do in simple ways, to not make it all too complicated, but to produce something in my own way and not as everyone else had done.
Now and again someone would ask for a book to be signed. When all was done I sent the image files and words to the wonderful Fabio who put all together to make something lovely. So,thanks Fabio, and Nicky from Frances Lincoln, and here is How to Draw a Hare.
