Today I have painted the last pictures for East of the Sun, West of the Moon. Yesterday when I spoke to my publisher she asked when they could expect delivery of the artwork for my next book, The Panda’s Child! Not fair, I said. I am busy hunting and catching words and my head is full of hares.
So, I have finished the work on a book that I started writing about 6 years ago and have been illustrating off and on for 9 months. A bit like giving birth really, but less painful in some ways and more painful in others. She’s now going to be whisked away by a dedicated team of designer, editor and sales people for a new birth next August, I hope, where she will be given wings to fly.
And how does it feel? Well, I feel confused and a bit shattered, and in need of time to play and rest and walk and think and sit and watch.
