Too busy for my own good

I think I have travelled another 2000 miles, to the Lake District, to Hay, where the snow had settled on the hills.

The past two months have been movement and learning, and now I ned to paint. In all the whirling swirl, two things:

  1. Independent Booksellers voted The Lost Words the most Beautiful Book of the Year. And that was from a longlist of great beauty. How wonderful is that! I went to London to hear the news first hand and collect the award for al the team at Hamish Hamilton who made our book shine.

2. We were voted Hay Festival Book of the Year, and what an utter surprise that was.

And Hay Winter Festival was the most wonderful thing. I blogged about it on the Hay Festival site, so follow the link to see, because now, now, now, I am going to settle into my messy studio to paint.

About Jackie

I am an artist and writer. I live in a small house by the sea in Wales where I write, paint, walk and watch and dream of bears and whales. I love to read, have a wish for wings and prefer the company of animals to that of humans, though at times I can be quite friendly. I am learning how to work with wood engraving tools and hoping to show that you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Hay Festival was so right. The Lost Words really is the book of the year, or it is by my measure at least. Picked up Elementum Journal just to get a little bit more of it.

Loved the Hay Festival blog post. How wonderfully charming to read a fountain pen-written post! Handwritten blogging should definitely be a “thing” (as the Internet likes to say).

Wonderful to watch and admire from a distance! Are there times when you wonder what happened when you first contacted Robert Macfarlane, and how it took on its own momentum to where you are now? Phew, that was a very busy few weeks, enjoy the peace and your painting. I for one enjoyed watching from afar! Congratulations again, so very well deserved!

Congratulations on all those the awards.

ps: I hope you will post some more of your painting in progress.

Messy studios are the best! The perfect place to work and recoup after your long journey and your gathering of brilliant prizes.
