Jo's Storm by Caroline Pitcher
illustrated by Jackie Morris
pub
Bodley Head 1994
A simple story about a child playing with paper and scissors to make
a magical wintry world.
This was my first venture
into picture books and came about because Caroline Pitcher had seen
some of the work I had done for Greenpeace and put my name forward to
the publishers. It is still possible to get hold of copies second-hand,
but at the moment it is out of print.

The text and
images give a glimpse of the natural world and man's effect on it. Jo's
world is peopled with wildlife, polar bears and penguins, seals and
whales all share in his adventure.
What I remember
most about this book is that I started work on it the week after my
son was born, sitting on the floor in front of the fire with a big white
cat curled at my feet and Tom balanced over my shoulder and sketchbook
on my knee.
Review from
Times Educational Supplement by Andrew Davies, Dec 1994 "Jo's Storm
by Caroline Pitcher and Jacky Morris... is an elegant and exuberant
picture book."
