I work in a small room in my house on the side of a hill near the sea. The room is cluttered, full of books and cd's and paintings and angels and a raven and a hare, paints and brushes. There is enough space for me to walk in and move around a little. The window looks out onto a hedge of blackthorn trees which are covered in blossom in the spring and I have bird feeders hanging in the winter, so it is busy with birds. This photo is taken in spring whilst working on The Barefoot Book of Classic Poems, when the daffodils were in bloom and each day I would walk down to the daffodil farm to buy fresh flowers and fill the house with flowers that came in like tight green buds but burst into sunshine in the warmth of the house. |
There are things I like to look at on the walls including musical instruments, and paintings by other artists. The box below was put together by a lady called Rachel Setford. Full of beautiful things all of which belonged to people and all of which are full of stories and infinite connections. On sunny days it reflects the window wonderfully and I can see what birds are behind me. When I work I listen to the radio and to music, or just sit and think. In between books I tidy up and try and put some order into the space. |
