September began with warm sunny days and more and more seal pups. In less than two weeks the beach went from having one pup to about twelve, with bull seals swimming off shore and mothers in the water. Some pups are already taking their first swimming lessons and others beginning to molt into darker coats. So far the weather is holding for them, no gales yet, and the pups and mothers are singing their mournful sounding seal songs that echo around the cliffs.

Going for walks takes longer as the hedges are full of ripe blackberries which demand to be picked and eaten. They taste better when they still have the warmth of the sunshine on them. And the cats are still enjoying walking with us.

Getting back to work slowly after the school holidays, and trying to juggle the poetry book, The Snow Leopard, Swansea Festival, Cheltenham Festival and three exhibitions., as well as roughs for Singing to the Sun and new prints. Had a minor panic when the artwork for this years Musicians Benevolent Fund card went missing in transit, but it turned up after a week and a half touring couriers of the UK after receiving a sound beating. Fortunately the artwork was miraculously undamaged, but more by luck than any care from the couriers!

I met Linda Owen-Lloyd from Images of Delight, a gallery specializing in the sale of illustration, based in Bristol. Through Linda I will be part of an exhibition of illustration in Bristol in October, along with lots of other illustrators, and Linda's web site is well worth checking. Contact Linda through her web site for an invitation to the opening on 6th October.

Early in the month I had a delivery of lots of gold leaf for some paintings I was doing, moongold and red gold and warm yellow. These are for large pieces for the exhibition in Against the Grain and Walcot Chapel, and include the image below.

The last few weeks have been very difficult as I have been suffering from problems with my eyes, a big blind spot in one eye which as yet is undiagnosed, but which has made doing anything very difficult.
