At night while Joseph's village sleeps Joseph hears the lion roar across the wide savannah. Against his father's wishes he goes out in search of the great beast, and finds him, head streaming with gold and golddust. Soon a friendship grows between the two, and a protection.

But one day the traders come looking for lion, and especially cubs, and Joseph suspects that his father has betrayed his new friends....
