East of the Sun necklace draw: Today is the day.
It seems just perfect to do the draw for the necklace from East of the Sun, West of the Moon in the week that celebrates Independent Booksellers.
All the ticket stubbs are gathered in. I have a few extra emails to add to bookmarks from late buyers who have crept in, finding those last few straggling books. If you have no idea what I am talking about then here is a summary:
When I wrote and illustrated East of the Sun I put into the story a necklace. Because I am a passionate supporter of independent booksellers I wanted to give them something, to encourage people to go into their local bookshop and buy a copy, not at a discounted price from the faceless giant of Amazon, but from a real bookshop. And hopefully while they were in there they might find other beauties to buy. You can read more about the idea on an earlier blog post.
I tried to get the Booksellers Association interested, but to no avail. My publishers decided it was too complicated, so in the end pursued the idea alone, with just a handful of interested shops. Just as well I think. It has been complicated enough! Anyway, thanks to the lovely people who bought the book the first edition sold out in 2 months and we are now waiting for the second edition to travel across the seas and back into the shops.
In the meantime I am off to Solva Woollen Mill, who alone sold over 250 copies of the book sending them far around the world. Then later today I will put my hand in to the bowl that holds the stubbs and pull out a winner.
