Moving House
A long time ago, when the internet was young, but no less mysterious than it is now, I had a website and on that website, after a while, a ‘journal’. It was a clunky kind of home grown creature, not difficult to manage but quirkey and hard to control, but these were the early days of blogging and it worked for me.
Next I grew a blog, or rather my cats did. Their blog is quiet at the moment for too many of the cats I live with died this year and although they have a following they have chosen not to write much, missing Kiffer and Maurice and the wonderful Martha. Their many adventures can still be followed though and they will return to blogging some day ( in fact they have been talking of migrating to WordPress themselves). One of the highlights from the cat blog was their visit from Joanna Lumley, who really did come all the way to Pembrokeshire just to visit the Ginger Pride, not to visit me.

Encouraged by the success of the cats who seemed to develope a large following I decided it was time to change from my curiously home made journal with its Heath Robinson infrastructure to a shiny new blog and so began ‘Drawing a Line in Time’, my idea of a joke as I was usually at least 6 months late with every deadline for my long suffering publishers. On this blog it became easy to upload posts and link and build and with labels to gather ‘like minded’ posting into sections. And yet I was always told that WordPress was better, in search engines and functionality and so……….
………now I am here, in WordPress, hosted on my website and when I have managed to get my head around posts and pages, categories and settings, Gravatars, avatars, themes, widgets and the multitude of plug ins available, when I have begun to try and understand the magical coding that makes this all work and decided whether I should ‘import’ my old blog, well, who knows what then will happen here.
Probably just more of the same.
Learning so fast it makes my head hurt! It seems I have managed to get myself a gravatar. Now I think a bath and a dog walk on the beach would be good. Wonder where the plug in for those are?
Best of luck with the new blog Jackie. I know it can be difficult at first and at one time I had four blogs on the go until I found the format I liked!!!
Thanks Kimberley. I do worry that this will be yet another thing that will eat my painting time, but hopefully will get the hang of it quickly.
Ok I followed you over here. I love Joanna Lumley by the way. My dh and I saw a show she did of traveling in Greece. So now I have found you, I guess I will unfollow your oulde blog.

Jackie, I’ve joined up here too, as I love your blog so much. I’ll watch with interest how it all goes, I’m still using blogger and don’t think I have the brain-space to try working out a whole new way of doing it…at least, not at the moment…much too scary!
Terra, if you just want to add Jackie’s blog to your list of favourites so you get all her updates, you can do that through your blogger dashboard. Down on the left bottom corner of the ‘Reading List’ that lists all the blogs you follow, you’ll see two buttons, ‘Add’, and ‘Manage’. Click on ‘Add’, and a box titled ‘Step 1: Add Blogs’ will pop up asking for a URL. Just type in the web address of Jackie’s new blog (or any other blog without a followers button), and click ‘Next’, then it will ask if you want to follow publicly or privately. Click whichever you prefer, and Jackie’s blog will be added to your blog list and you’ll get all the updates. Hope that helps!
It isn’t so hard. My friend Claire had been telling me for ages that I should incorporate my blog into my website for many reasons. There are features I like very much like being able to have a conversation more directly within comments, being able to link within the structure of comments. Basic interface is very similar, language a little different. It’s a bit like what I used to use to make my website but just much more up to date and versatile.

Welcome to WordPress, Jackie! I switched from Blogger a few years ago, when all that Beta nonsense turned my hair white. I took the old blog with me and can’t say I’m sorry.
I am hardly a techno-geek, but I manage and you have had more experience in this game so you’ll be fine. Is there a plug-in for walking on the beach? Must go and look… 😉

Glyn has been in a care home for almost a year now since he last became ill. The house looks sad and sorry without him. Nadolig has been looked after by my neighbours and they have been brilliant with him. Glyn is warm and well fed and has company, but I do wonder how he is. Will see if I can find out.
I am sas to hear that the cats have moved on. They were just charming. All my felines have also moved on, so I know how that is. But, so happy to follow you on word press now, and perhaps I can even post a comment when moved to (as I so often am by your posts). Somehow I was never able to over at the other site. Hope the learning curve is not to sharp. See you here again soon. You are a treasure.
Thanks. The ‘not being able to comment’ is one of the reasons I have moved. Wondering whether to import my old blog into wordpress. I like the way you can have a conversation inside the comments. Very good. Mearning fast but must get on with painting too.
Welcome to WordPress – I started out here and have been very happy with it! I’ve followed the Ginger Pride for quite a long time, and miss them when they don’t post – hope they will feel like doing it again soon. Love your artwork – thanks for sharing it!

I adore Joanna Lumley in all her incarnations (especially her old series with David McCallum, “Sapphire and Steel”). Not surprised she is a catophile. Now that everyone seems to be abandoning Blogger, and the problems I’ve had with it lately myself, I suspect I may migrate to WordPress eventually. I like your “masthead.”
